A friend bought a house from a old couple. There was a D9 cat dozer and a nice old ford tractor sitting behing the barn. It took a few hours but he got both to start. He is rebuilding both.

I really can agree that they've ruined those old nice trucks now with lowering them and tuning stuff and things like that. I, and I can say, many truck drivers in here would really love to see a vintage truck like this in a real business, or on the road again at least :-) A truck that gave to those new truck drivers a meaning to their lifes forever.. I now a few in person. And yes, I am a Cummins guy too ;-)

Love her!! - she is everything i dreamed about as a 12 yr old Welsh kid after seeing Convoy & Smokey films. I owned a German MAN 464 with the same Eaton box but in no way did it ever sounded as sweet as this Old ladys beautiful Cummins growl. A big cam Cummins was the latest technology when i started as a garage apprentice. The patina is wonderful- im sure the old boy who ran her would have appreciated keeping her in the original livery- patina is true history- too much respraying destroys character, which she has in tonnage. Jake brake heaven!!

Yup, August 16th. Also the same year Smokey and the Bandit came out.

My Dad drove all his life. When we went somewhere in the pickup he would ride along side trucks on the 4 lanes and say, “Listen to her spin up.” I didn’t understand to start with and I remember asking him what he was talking about. He said, “The turbo, son. That high pitched whine.” My whole life, since that day, I’ve listened for the turbo to spin up. He was a Peterbilt man as well. R.I.P. Pop, I miss ya.

This is just amazing. My uncle had a 77 peterbuilt 358 for many years. He sold it last year due to his age (63 years old). The engine had about 1.2 million miles on it before he had the engine completely rebuilt and a bunch of performance stuff added to it as well it was pushing well over 1000 hp making 10-12 mpg in it when before he was making about 4-6 mpg. I can't remember what color it was now but he completely repainted it took him about a good 2 months. It had well over 3.5 million miles before he sold it. I showed this video to him and he said God bless you for saving this truck and keeping the couples memories alive along with it.

I always loved American trucks, especially those from the 80's. I used to have Kenworth and Peterbuilt posters on my bedroom wall and loved how they styled them with those gorgeous paint jobs and decals.

That would be a great little ongoing restoration project. You have something to work with. Every weekend just do a little something to improve it. Maybe start with replacing a few hoses at a time. Pull off a part, clean it up, paint it, put it back on. You do that and in a year or two you would have a really dependable solid workhorse. Getting all the engine maintenance items like getting valve backlash and changing the fluids and every filter would be the first things I would knock out.

Instead of whining in the discrption I would like to know more about the mechanical of the truck. You are right diesel does not go bad but I think with most fuel it degrades over time sediment collect. Looked like she smokes a little. She cleaned right up. Good old truck. Good old American iorn. If you know of any Peterbilt 359's for free, please let us know because we would be all over those kinds of deals. This one was far from free. Even if Ryan did get this truck for free, it would have cost a small fortune to get it back to working condition - tires, brakes, hoses, fluids, cleaning, detailing, etc...nothing in this video was a "troll", I just made it to document how we saved the truck from rotting away any longer.

Not quite. They looked to have been replaced not long before the truck was parked. I would trust them for local driving but definitely not long-distance driving. They're going to get replaced anyway.

I am just blown away. My oldest car is a 1954 and what a joy to bring something like this back to life. You all are great and your skill and knowledge are obvious!

I assume you properly prepped the engine prior to simply putting in a battery and starting it after sitting for a year? Maybe not.....you appear too lazy to even jack the thing up and put boards under the tires to move it out.......a lot of unnecessary trauma on the rear end by spinning the tires....but of course beforehand, you topped up the rear differential to eliminate axle stress caused by spinning and clawing its way out of the bog.....but I doubt it. :(
