Wife managed to broke the handle on her brother's umbrella. Even though it is a cheap one, it has some fancy branding on it and the guy's a real snob, so he was kinda hurt by the event.
After a quick fix attempt using epoxy failed in about a week I thought to make a fancy handle for it from exotic zebra wood to suit the guy.

It just smells wood and quality in here! I appreciate it man, it is way better than the original handle. Would love some gentleman accessories made by you.

Awesome! Could you tell me more about the CA finish? Is it like ... "super glue"? And if so, does it stick to the wood if it is applied after mineral oil (which BTW, is it like linseed oil? for example http://www.ikea.com/ro/ro/catalog/products/00046786/ )

Mulțumesc!

E superglue.

Just repaired my broken golf umbrella handle. I laminated 2 pieces of timber from an apricot tree I cut down about 10 years ago. Beautiful grain and character. Thank you so much for the great video. My umbrella is as good as new now!!

The Small Workshop Cool good to know! I'm thinking they may also sell nice wood at wood working stores, I'm going to go visit one this weekend to see. Thanks!

Same here, even though I live in Eastern Europe. I get nice wood mostly online, some of it from knifemaking suplies, some from old furniture and some from model making websites. For example I've got ebony form a broken ashtray I bought used, it was cracked, unusable and ugly, so it was very cheap, but I only wanted it for the wood. It had a leg/stand like a small sidetable, so plenty of wood there. I've got some nice figured olive wood in the form of a cracked cutting board. A lot of cheap indian furniture is made from rosewood.

Yea, I know, it's a low quality umbrella but some company slapped a fancy logo on it so my snobby brother in law really cherishes it.

Nice ! At 2:22, why do you put your tool on the piece like that ? I've seen that done elsewhere, but I don"t understand why.... thanks !

fast way to check if you finished rounding the stock. if it still has bumps the tool will vibrate.

I use two turning tools in this videos. The round one is a generic "made in germany" tool from the hardware store. The small, square one, is part of a set of six miniature turning chisels from Proxxon.

Great instructionvideo. Learned from the makers of epoxy that heat makes the repair harden and last longer 50 or even up to a 100 C unleashes the magic. Old epoxy does not harden at all. The shops have no way of telling if there is no expiring date on the products

No, it's there. Might be weird, but I kinda like it, it gives them that "factory look".

Vor 2 yearsThe Small Workshop
LOL, yea, the guy's a real gem. We literally paid for his college, he lived on our couch for 4 years then we gave him a job. Ten years later he acts like some kind of nobility and only visits us to show off his latest purchases. And I'm not jealous, overall we are doing better than him, we just have different priorities in life. As for the shop, I needed to put a 50 gallon fish tank to host some koi carps for the winter. And since the shop is literally in a broom closet I had to completely gut the place to make room for it. That's what I did for the last month, so I had no way to make videos. As for the "new" tools (new to me, anyway), I got them during the summer renovation I did at my parents house. Thank you!
