Making an ice pick from an old screwdriver with zebra wood handle and sheath and threaded brass ferrules.
You'll find lots of details on this project on my newly released website: www.thesmallworkshop.com/2016/01/11/ice-pick/
==========
This project was obviously inspired by Jimmy DiResta's ice picks videos. Before seeing them I don't think I even knew such a thing existed. So kudos to this wonderful artist and his amazing creativity!

I got a set of 3 ice picks from 'the pound shop' last week. 6, 8, and 10 inch, Phillips, Posidrive, and Flat Head too, (for extremely thick ice!). I was in and out in 5 minutes! I get the feeling this guy is just showing off! 😊 (Kudos btw mate, I bloody would! 😉) ATTENTIONS RETARDS! this has been a joke comment! Normal people get it, it amuses them! It's not for you, so just go back to your basements and be quiet!)
Vor 11 MonateBilbo_Gamers
With stuff like these, I like to use a good food analogy. The craftsmanship is the brisket, and the sauce is the music. A really good brisket doesn't need any sauce.

How can you tell if a screwdriver is made of hard enough steel to make an ice pick like this?
Vor yearThe Small Workshop
You try to file it. If the file bites then it's soft, if the file skates then it's hard. But if you plan to use the ice pick on soft materials like wood it doesn't need to be extremely hard. It's not like a knife to cut things all day and get dulled.

hi very nice job sir, could you or anyone tell me about this small lathe at the start of the video I have just found one in a market with lots of extras but it has no makers name on it any information would be much appreciated😊
Vor yeardriveheronman
The Small Workshop good man make a video of it😉. I gave €20 for lathe it come with 20/30 Collets haha happy days. you do lovely work good job lad👍
Vor yearThe Small Workshop
Mine came without accessories, not even a collet, and by the looks of it I think someone found it in a scrap yard or something. I plan to convert it to an ER16 collet system, someday, when I get a chance.
Vor yeardriveheronman
The Small Workshop ah very good I appreciate your knowledge on this, my model come with two rotary 4 hole Collette tail stocks and 3 compounds has your model the same gear? thanks for your help👌
Vor yearThe Small Workshop
Sorry, in my first reply I was thinking your comment was on my latest video. The lathe in this video is a small watchmaker's lathe made in Germany, a company named Andra & Zwingenberger, also known as AZ. I've also seen it sold under the name VEB Prazima.
